In 1820, the General Society founded Mechanics' Institute as a day school to provide tuition-free education to the children of its members.
Welcome to the Library of the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen! As a subscriber you will join thousands of other New Yorkers who have benefited from the Library since 1820.
Master Weaver Artisan Rabbit Goody will lecture on the work of her weaving studio, Thistle Hill Weavers.
Whether it's a seminar, class, meeting, banquet, reception, photo or film shoot, make the occasion an unforgettable experience at 20 West 44th Street.
The Labor, Landmarks and Literature Lecture Series continues a tradition of public lectures that was established by The General Society in 1833. The Series brings people of diverse interest from the entire New York area into our Library space. Each year, a series of 12 lectures has traditionally covered the topics of labor, literature and landmarks.
